The only clue I remember is that in the (1965) TV show Gomez and Morticia mention governments which ruled the region before the USA did, and of course there are many other versions of The Addams Family to choose from.

Mar 4, 2014 · In the Addams Family movie the makers completely break the joke by using special effects to make Thing actually be a disembodied hand, because the movie is (compared to the TV series) tone-deaf and about as subtle as a brick. IMO.
