Wichita had 5.9 inches of snow fall on Thursday, bringing the January total up to 9.5 inches, according to National Weather Service data. That amount, as measured at the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, already ties for the 12th snowiest January on records dating back to 1888.

The snowstorm that began falling on Oklahoma continued into Friday morning, leaving inches of snow as it moved out of the area.

The forecast calls for a 20% to 30% chance of snow starting after noon, with the chance increasing up to midnight, the National Weather Service in Wichita said Wednesday.
