Residents in Orange County are dealing with an extended state of emergency due to the ongoing Jennings Creek wildfire​.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus declared a state of emergency Wednesday evening following a weeklong effort to control the fire, which as of the declaration was close to 41% contained.

The fire has impacted more than 5,200 acres along the New York-New Jersey border. CBS News New York's Hannah Kliger spoke to worried residents in Greenwood Lake and Warwick.

The Jennings Creek wildfire is 90 percent contained, officials announced Monday evening. Despite persisting high wind gusts, crews were able to drop buckets of water on the ridge throughout the day. The voluntary evacuation for Wah-Ta-Wah Park is over but remains in effect for 120 Edgemere south to Woods Road,

Fire crews are still fighting the Jennings Creek wildfire, which has burned 5,304 acres as of Sunday evening. Progress was made throughout the day, with over 60,000 gallons of water dropped onto the hot ground via helicopters.
