The Potomac River is open again after federal recovery teams concluded their salvage operations following the deadly collision between a commercial airliner and a U.S. Army helicopter on Jan. 29.

Six days ahead of schedule, officials on Tuesday announced the section of the Potomac River affected by the deadly collision between an American Airlines jet and military helicopter had been fully restored.

Salvage crews have recovered the last large pieces of aircraft wreckage from the Potomac River on Thursday and are focusing on collecting small pieces from the crash site where 67 died.

Crews are expected to remove the cockpit from the American Airlines jet from the Potomac River as they continue recovery efforts from last week's fatal mid-air collision that killed 67 people.

Officials announced Tuesday that the section of the Potomac River that was impacted by the DCA crash has been fully restored.

Crews are on the scene on the Potomac River to retrieve the submerged wreckage of an airliner and an Army helicopter that collided midair in the deadliest U.S. air disaster since 2001.

In a major update, the US National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration retrieved parts of the wreckage of the Black Hawk helicopter on 7. The helicopter collided with an American Airlines jet on January 30.
