The Missouri Supreme Court has upheld a voter-approved ballot measure gradually raising the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour and requiring employers to provide paid sick leave.

The Missouri Supreme Court ruled that Proposition A is valid, and the paid sick leave portion will go into effect on May 1. Proposition A, passed by voters in November, promised one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked.

The fate of the law remains uncertain as Republican state legislators continue working to weaken it before the session concludes on May 16.
