Russian national faces US cybercrime charges over ransomware scheme, feds say
42-year-old Evgenii Ptitsyn has administered the sale and distribution of Phobos, software designed to block access to computer files until a sum is paid, since at least 2020, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland.

Beginning in at least November 2020, Ptitsyn is accused of conspiring with others to develop the Phobos ransomware and sell access to affiliate groups, as well as advertising his services on criminal forums and messaging platforms under the pseudonyms “derxan” and “zimmermanx.”
