BMW is rethinking its car infotainment experience with a bunch of new technologies working in tandem. Starting late 2025, it'll begin outfitting all of its vehicles with what it's calling the 'Panoramic iDrive' system,

The terminology, in typical Germanic fashion, is a little confusing. The entire system is called "Panoramic iDrive," with “Panoramic Vision” being the funky horizontal band display across the whole dash; meanwhile, the all-new software the whole enchilada runs on is named “BMW Operating System X.”

Coming first to its Neue Klasse EVs before spreading across the lineup, Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X features a three-tiered display and an AI-powered voice assistant.

The next generation of BMW ’s iDrive infotainment system is making its global debut this week at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas. At technology partner Amazon’s booth, visitors can get an initial impression using a beta version in an X3 crossover.

BMW is rolling out its new Panoramic iDrive system, which has been developed to help revolutionize the in-cabin experience of its vehicles.

With its sweeping 3D graphics, the head-up display, or HUD, is Panoramic iDrive's most eye-catching component. BMW says the HUD projects navigation and dashboard information within the driver's line of sight without needing a special windshield coating—which means drivers won't have another thing to pay for when a rock inevitably cracks the glass.

The BMW iDrive system, launched in 2001, has evolved over the years and now receives a major update with the "Panoramic Vision".

BMW's next generation of EVs, known as the Neue Klasse, will have a boosted visual display. At a CES press conference in Las Vegas Tuesday morning, the German carmaker announced the BMW Panoramic iDrive — a complete overhaul of the current iDrive infotainment system from the operating system to the display screen.

I hate cars that don’t have buttons, but BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive system looks so sleek, intuitive and personal that I might be willing to ditch them altogether. The first thing I noticed about the Panoramic iDrive system shown here at CES 2025 is the head-up display that projects content on an ultra wide panel that goes from A-pillar to A-pillar across the entire front of the car.
