Microsoft has released a public preview of its AI development tool GitHub Copilot for Xcode Chat. It supports users who develop apps in Apple's Xcode programming environment in Swift or Objective-C.

During WWDC today, Apple announced a number of updates to its tools for software developers, including the new Foundation Models framework, Xcode 26, Swift 6.2, and more.

The new Xcode version aims to increase productivity with Swift Assist and predictive code completion, while Swift 6 focuses on concurrent programming and data-race safety.

However, Swift Assist never reached developers due to internal worries about its potential to slow down app development. Despite this, AI coding assistants continue to gain popularity.
