As details are sorted out in the voucher bill expected to go before the Texas House early this week, some of Houston's estimated 150 private schools say they have been laying the groundwork for expansion for years and are ramping up efforts to be top of mind for Houston families who might use vouchers.

The Texas House approved the plan, part of a push by President Trump’s allies to offer up to about $10,000 for private school, home-school or virtual learning.

“For the first time in Texas history, our state has passed a universal school choice bill out of both chambers in the Texas Legislature,” Abbott said. “This is an extraordinary victory for the thousands of parents who have advocated for more choices when it comes to the education of their children.”
