Experts cite a plethora of reasons why the deal doesn’t create a database monopoly. For one, MySQL, despite its wild popularity, won’t add much to Oracle’s revenues.

Because MySQL is such a popular database, I thought it would be a great data source to use as an illustration. This will also refresh your memory on how to set MySQL up for remote connections.

Let’s create a new table on our database. Click Create table, and in the resulting window (Figure D), give the table a name, select the engine and character set, and then add columns.
