Inefficient code often arises from a myriad of factors, including suboptimal algorithms, poor resource management, redundant computations and inadequate memory usage.

It was introduced in VS Code 1.99 (March 2024) by the GitHub Copilot team at Microsoft as part of an expansion of Copilot into a more autonomous "AI coding agent" capable of handling multi-step tasks.
