Among other things, Microsoft says the update means that the version of WSL available from the Microsoft Store includes the default experience, complete with WSLg (Windows Subsystem for Linux GUI).

Microsoft will also let all Windows 10 users use Linux GUI apps once they have updated to the Microsoft Store version of WSL.

We first saw it revealed at Microsoft’s Build developer conference back in 2020, with it being introduced for testing in a Windows Subsystem for Linux preview in April 2021.

WSL 2 also added support for using GUI-based Linux apps with the introduction of WSLg (short for Windows Subsystem for Linux GUI) that rolled out to Windows 10 Insiders in May 2021.
