Tesla investors think Elon Musk has his work cut out for him once he steps back from DOGE.

For at least a decade, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has promised his company would soon launch a fully autonomous vehicle. Now the stakes are higher than ever for the billionaire, after his electric vehicle company reported a disastrous 71 percent drop in earnings Tuesday, as his political profile has become increasingly divisive.

Hundreds of protests at Tesla showrooms have also weighed on the company. Under the banner of a “Tesla Takedown,” opponents of Musk and Trump’s government policies have targeted the company to try to gain leverage over Musk, and demonstrators have continued to swarm Tesla locations, especially on weekends.
