One low-ranked French tennis player has been banned for life from the sport, and four others were given suspensions varying from two to 10 years, for match-fixing linked to a syndicate in Belgium.
On Thursday, Qinwen Zheng outlasted Elise Mertens in a lengthy battle in the Round of 16 at the Charleston Open. Zheng defeated Mertens in three sets: 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
