The Trump administration has paused $175 million in federal funding to the University of Pennsylvania over the university’s insistence on allowing men to compete in women’s sports. The action follows President Donald Trump’s executive order issued last month that bars federally funded institutions from allowing male athletes to compete against women and threatens to rescind funding from any institution that refuses to comply.

Women’s elite sports revenues are projected to reach a record $2.35 billion this year, according to Deloitte, more than triple the market size in 2022.

In 2024, annual global revenue for women's elite sports had crossed the billion-dollar threshold for the first time.

The latest revenue projections reflect global growth of 240 percent over four years, according to a new report.
