FWC: McKayla Spencer, the Nonnative Fish and Wildlife Program Coordinator for the FWC, told us snake species, such as the Burmese python, have multiple ways to smell and process scent.

The challenge aims to reduce the invasive Burmese python population in South Florida ecosystems. Prizes are awarded for capturing the most pythons, with the top prize being $10,000 in 2024.

The Florida Python Challenge is an annual competition aimed at eliminating invasive Burmese pythons. The challenge takes place in designated breeding grounds in and around the Everglades.
