Fast forward to 2021 and Google added personalization into the mix with Material You. The idea is simple: select a new wallpaper and your phone automatically generates a matching color palette.

But at its simplest, Material You wasn’t just meant to be a pretty coat of paint on top of Android, even though that’s how most of us see it. It’s actually a powerful tool for designers.
