A third generation satellite, Glonass-K, is under development for launch in 2005. Glonass had 24 operational satellites in 1995, but the system deteriorated from 1996 to 2000 due to a lack of funding.

By 2010, GLONASS had achieved 100 percent coverage of Russian territory and in October 2011, the full orbital constellation of 24 satellites was restored, enabling full global coverage.
