"I think family tree projects are a great idea. I don’t think it should be graded but used to celebrate the diversity and different family makeups we all have," Smith said.

Building a family tree doesn’t have to be just an assignment for fifth-graders; it can be a project for the whole family, the whole class and even the whole world.
