As initially reported on Friday by ESPN's NBA insider Shams Charania, the 76ers have ruled Embiid out for the rest of the season. The 30-year-old big man has played in just 19 games this season, and has been plagued by a left knee injury that the team felt was serious enough at this point to shut him down.

The 76ers and Joel Embiid are consulting doctors and considering alternative options, such as surgery, to treat his injured knee, sources told ESPN.

The Sixers will finish the final six weeks of the regular season with eye on the lottery, hoping they get a top-six pick in the draft.
