Day is -19 and in a tie for second at the completion of Round 3. He and two others are four shots behind tearaway leader Sepp Straka. Day is searching for his first win on the PGA Tour since May 2023. The Aussie has played consistent golf all weekend with rounds of -8, -6 and -5 respectively.

Hoffman won his first PGA Tour title at this event back in 2007, holding held off John Rollins in a playoff on a windy weekend with sub-freezing temperatures. It was a celebrity pro-am known as the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic back then, a West Coast landmark frequently played by Hollywood stars and U.S. presidents.

Jason Day was left to rue two late mistakes as he came up just short of a first PGA TOUR win since 2023 at The American Express in California.

Day is in a tie for fifth on -14, two shots behind leader Charley Hoffman (-16). The Aussie carded a -6 66 to back up a stellar opening round 64 as he aims to record his first PGA Tour win in 21 months since taking out the Byron Nelson in May 2023.

Jason Day started the final round as the best Australian hope, but needs to catch alight as he is one-under for the day, six shots back from Straka, after seven holes also. Day birdied the first hole but made a string of pars since.
