Torrential rain forced more than 1,200 residents to leave their homes and large parts of the city have been left without electricity. Roads and bridges were destroyed and footage shows cars piled up after being swept up by the floodwater.

More than 10 people died, and thousands evacuated from the city of Bahia Blanca in Argentina as eight hours of non-stop rain wreaked havoc over 350,000 people.

Bahia Blanca has suffered past weather-related disasters, including a storm in December 2023 that claimed 13 lives. It caused houses to collapse and provoked widespread infrastructure damage. Heavy rains also fell Friday night in the resort town of Mar del Plata, with officials suspending evening activities and urging people to remain indoors.
