Volunteers spent two days rescuing animals at the center of an animal abuse investigation in San Joaquin County after dozens of dead or malnourished horses were discovered.

Officials and animal rescue groups in San Joaquin County are scrambling to house and rehabilitate a large number of horses following an animal cruelty investigation that resulted in the arrest of a woman and the discovery of 27 dead horses on her properties.
