Meteorologists are not yet sure how bad a brewing storm will be — some models signal a brewing blizzard in the Northeast.

A powerful winter storm with heavy snow is headed to areas in the Midwest and Northeast. Meanwhile, the South is preparing for heavy rain and the potential for severe tornadoes. NBC’s Angie Lassman tracks the forecast.

After hitting California, the same system will move across the country this weekend bringing another threat for heavy snow, flooding rain and significant severe thunderstorms.
