National Guard troops with riot shields pushed protesters into the streets, as tear gas was deployed and less-than-lethal rounds exploded in the roadway.

President Donald Trump is moving swiftly to act on his immigration promises with little internal restraint, determined to test the bounds of his executive authority in order to fulfill the promises of his reelection campaign.

Protesters clashed with law enforcement in Los Angeles on Sunday after Trump deployed National Guard troops over the objections of Gov. Newsom.

Demonstrators have "ignited" vehicles in downtown Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. In a statement posted on X, the LAPD said it was "attempting to enter the area to extinguish the fire".

Trump slammed Gov. Gavin Newsom, who previously called Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to California “deranged.”

What started as a small protest against immigrant arrests escalated over a few days, after President Trump called in the National Guard.
