Authorities on Monday night ended a shelter-in-place order for more than 90,000 people east of Atlanta following a weekend chemical plant fire that sent a massive plume of dark smoke into the Georgia sky and led to complaints about a strong chemical smell and haze.

A day after a massive chemical fire sent a cloud of toxic chlorine gas into the atmosphere, more than 90,000 residents in Georgia's Rockdale County were told to remain sheltered indoors on Monday.

People in the northern part of Rockdale County were ordered to evacuate and others were told to shelter in place with windows and doors closed.
