A family friend of former California Polytechnic State University and track star Shelby Daniele, who died on Sept. 25, shared her alleged cause of death in a Facebook post. Brian Brandenburg, who says he's the father of one of Daniele’s friends, posted on Facebook that the 23-year-old died of a brain aneurysm.

Former Cal Poly track and field star Shelby Daniele reportedly died from a brain aneurysm following the 23-year-old stand-out athlete’s death on Wednesday. Daniele’s cause of death was revealed last week by the father of a fellow athlete attending the California NCAA Division I school, Brian Brandenburg, in a Facebook post last week.

Shelby Daniele had been a top performer on the track-and-field team since 2020. She holds the school record in the women’s indoor 200-meter and is a six-time All-Big West honoree and a two-time Big West champion, according to Cal Poly.

In June, Daniele posed with a large smile alongside her parents as she celebrated graduating with her master’s degree in agriculture with distinction.
