SpringWidgets' display engine needs to be installed on a user's computer in order to run a widget on the desktop. It's a small install (only about 1.9 MB) but there's no support for the Mac yet.

SpringWidgets was launched by FIM Labs with fanfare in late 2006. It was FIM's first API, first developer platform, and first outreach to the dev community.

SpringWidgets has a few widgets already in the library, mostly showcasing Fox content from including IGN.com, FOXSports.com and MyFox local station sites. I’ve embedded a clock widget below.
