Xinhua SAN FRANCISCO: Roblox announced on Monday that it's launching the first iteration of its 3D model "Cube" to allow creators to create 3D objects using generative AI.

It maps the object and adds a three dimensional texture on top of it that matches the geometry of the object. For example, you can enter a text prompt to create texture for a 3D wooden treasure chest.

As noted in a press release, the team is releasing Cube 3D to its users, which is a special generative AI that allows them to create 3D models based solely on the text prompt they give the AI.

Notably, Roblox plans to open-source its 3D foundation model, allowing developers and even competitors to use and modify it. But it's not just about giving back—open source can be a two-way street.
