Roblox will scan video selfies of teens to assess their ages as part of a new Trusted Connections feature that gives users access to unfiltered chatting with people they know.

While most social platforms technically require users to be a certain age (Instagram, TikTok, and others all have minimum age requirements), workarounds are laughably easy. Roblox, however, appears to be taking a firmer stand in the fight for child safety.

Roblox announced Thursday that it’s launching new safeguards for people who are between the ages of 13 and 18. The company is introducing “Trusted Connections” to allow these users to connect more freely with people they know, alongside age estimation technology, more privacy tools, and insights for parents of teens.
