Voxels are effectively like 3D pixels, and they form an integral part of what is commonly referred to as a ‘retro 3D’ look, with pixelated edges sharp enough to cut your retinas on.

This means that the Retro Engine, used in Mania, the 2011 Sonic CD port, the mobile version of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and in Origins, is being used for Superstars.

Cocos has had great success with PC and mobile games with its 2D game engine. Now it is adding 3D to its open-source Cocos Creator 3.0.
