Launch Excel and open one of your documents. Locate the status bar at the bottom of the window. Right-click that status bar to display a list of options.

The cell will appear blank and the PivotTable will no longer display (blank) in the grand total rows. Figure I shows the new grand total text, sans (blank) and the Currency format in the amount field.

Microsoft Excel updates cell references when you copy an expression. Here are a couple of workarounds for those rare occasions when you don't want to change the cell references.
