Macron backs judges over Le Pen ban
Emmanuel Macron has backed the “independent” judges who banned Marine Le Pen from running in the next French presidential election. In his first reported comments on the case, Mr Macron said that threats made to the three-judge panel after their verdict were “absolutely intolerable”.

Macron opened a weekly meeting of French ministers by addressing the court’s decision, recalling “three things” government spokesperson Sophie Primas said: “that the judiciary is independent;” “that the threats made against judges are absolutely unbearable and intolerable;” and that “the law is the same for everyone.”
