Republican Donald Trump has won Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina, capturing three of the seven heavily contested battlegrounds and coming within a few electoral votes of winning the presidency.

Robert Halver, Head of Capital Market Analysis at Baader Bank said that “since Donald Trump stands for the economy, it can be assumed that stock markets around the world will go up. With one exception: China, because he (Donald Trump) will definitely impose tariffs at least on China. That will certainly make life difficult for the Chinese.”

Republicans won control of the Senate in Tuesday’s elections, gaining seats in West Virginia and Ohio. Other tight races remained too close to call in both the House and the Senate, as Democrats were hoping to win a House majority as voters across the nation cast ballots.

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice easily won election to the U.S. Senate, Edison Research projected on Tuesday, moving Republicans one step closer to their goal of taking control of the upper chamber of Congress after four years of Democratic majorities.
