The strongest earthquake yet after days of near-constant tremors has been recorded near the island of Santorini, the famous Greek tourist haven now almost emptied of visitors and residents.

Mitsotakis's remarks come as many people in Santorini spent Sunday night outdoors, amid fears of potential damage to buildings during the quakes. Some focal points of the tremors have been recorded at a depth of just 2km (1.2miles) below the surface.

From her balcony overlooking one of the world's most stunning sea views, Santorini resident Chantal Metakides insisted she would not join the scores fleeing the earthquakes shaking the popular Greek tourist island.
