Hurricane Helene has left a swath of destruction in Western North Carolina. The powerful storm has left many without power, hundreds of downed trees and a vast amount of flooding that has turned many of the area’s roads into what the Asheville Citizen Times calls “asphalt soup.

Western North Carolina is still grappling with the widespread damage, leaving many families to face some difficult decisions, including some leaving their homes behind. Amy Holcombe arrived in Greensboro on Sunday.
