President-elect Donald Trump signalled he might investigate the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Office of Diversity, and Inclusion, demanding the agency “preserve and retain all records, documents” after the organization shuttered the office the month after Trump’s election win.

The development comes at a time when Trump and other Republican leaders have been increasingly critical of government agencies prioritising diversity, equity and inclusion over national security

Trump claimed that the DEI office, which the FBI actually calls the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), should never have been opened and alleged that it was closed before his return because of corruption within the bureau.

The FBI confirmed to Fox News Digital that the agency closed its office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in December.

Following a string of major U.S. companies, including Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, backing away from DEI policies, the FBI announced without explanation on Thursday that it had closed the agency’s DEI department in December.

The FBI closed its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) office in December last year, a month after Donald Trump’s election victory.

"In recent weeks, the FBI took steps to close the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, effective by December 2024," the bureau said.
