(Reuters) - California's public health department on Tuesday reported a possible case of bird flu in a child with mild symptoms. The state said there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission of the virus and that the child's family members tested negative.

A child in California has tested positive for bird flu, and is recovering at home with mild upper respiratory tract symptoms, state health officials said.

Health officials have announced six more H5N1 bird flu infections in humans: five in California and the first known case in Oregon.
