There is finally significant rain in the forecast for the drought in Massachusetts. Some towns might even see a little snow.

State officials characterized the drought in Massachusetts as being in a "critical" stage across most of the state.

A map released by EEA Secretary Rebecca Tepper showed a “Level 3 - Critical Drought” persisting in all regions of the state with the exception of Cape Cod and the Islands.

After a few more sunny, warm days, some rainfall in the later week is set to provide some “temporary relief” amid the drought and high fire risk around the Boston region, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

While there is a chance for rain in the forecast, state officials declared that the drought in Massachusetts has reached a critical level.

The storm is expected to move into parts of the state before daybreak, and some areas may see an inch of rain.
