Angel Cabrera will make his controversial return to the Masters after winning his first PGA Tour Champions title. The 2009 champion was jailed for two years in Argentina for threats and harassment against two ex-girlfriends - Cecilia Torres Mana and Micaela Escudero - before his release in August 2023.
Angel Cabrera hasn’t played in the Masters since 2019 due to a conviction for domestic assault and intimidation of two former partners. Cabrera, the 2009 Masters champion, spent 30 months in jail in Brazil and Argentina and was released in August of 2023.
Returning to the annual Champions Dinner preceding the Masters is the type of event ‘El Pato’, who on Monday claimed his first Champions Tour trophy since his release from jail, dreamed of through the long hours at night in Brazilian and Argentinian prisons earlier this decade.
