‘Why were we spared?‘: Bonfire collapse survivors continue living to honor friends, Aggies lost in 1999
Texas A&M has a longstanding legacy for its traditions. In 1907, Aggies began celebrating their rivalry with the University of Texas with a bonfire. On its 92nd anniversary, barring 1963 to honor the late President John F. Kennedy, tragedy struck. At 2:42 a.m. on November 18, 1999, stack collapsed, killing 12 and injuring 27 others.
