Toulon is a city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France. Located on the French Riviera and the historical Provence, it is the prefecture of the Var department. The Commune of Toulon has a population of 176,198 people, making it France's 13th-largest city. It is the centre of an urban unit with 580,281 inhabitants, the ninth largest in France by population. Toulon is the second-largest French city by urban area on the Mediterranean coast after Marseille.
