Great place with smaller kids even if you don't know Swedish children books. Also, Finnish Moomin stuff outside the building and for sale in the shop. The train is a must, don't forget to go there.…Full review by Jussi S
My 3yo hasn’t read anything about Pippi Longstocking but a friend recommended Junibacken as a good place to take her while visiting Stockholm. Would it still be fun if she doesn’t know the characters? Or shall we just go to Skansen?

Actually, in my country we read only few Lindgred's books, and Junibacken is based on the large diversity of her fairy tails. But it was a real pleasure for me to visit this place, even taken into account that many things I saw for the first time. I suppose, it is even more interesting - you can motivate your child to read something new, and after the visit you can choose a new book in the museum's shop to read it after.

Playing on his/her own would not be advisable. The story train could be some fun but it's probably too fast for a 20 month old to see all the small details even if you point it out. All other things are for older ones and they do not necessarily pay attention to little ones when playing. Wait another year then it could be more fun, depending on the kid.
Hi, how much time should I allow to visit Junibacken, without rushing?

Sorry with late answer but been away and missed the request. Just to say a visit of around 3 hours including snack break would be about right. With younger kids out of peak school holidays then 3 hours is plenty.Of course with kids in tow you can do Vasa or the Aquarium in the same day and don't forget the Historiska Museum(Vikings and stuff) is a short stroll nearby. However if you do Skansen then leave a clear day for that. Hope this reply isn't after your visit here!
